 R.E. Nelson

working with words

I am a queer writer and performer from rural Oregon, based in New Orleans. I believe that collective creativity can be an act of radical empathy for ourselves and each other, which inherently pushes against the fear based thinking of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia.

My work explores the ways that imagination and fantasy can be fertile ground for exploring collective moments of beauty, destruction, comedy, identity, transformation, and collapse. I use art as a way to move into generative world-building conversations about new possible futures.
